All are welcome to join us for our Spring EcoWalk at Big Rock Forest Preserve on Jericho Road in Big Rock. This fully accessible, intergenerational event will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. We will meet in the first, main parking lot off Jericho Road.
Mature woodlands, high-quality marshes, tall-grass prairie, clear-running creeks, and a 65-foot-deep lake are just some of the highlights of Big Rock Forest Preserve. Big Rock Creek, rated one of the best quality streams in Illinois, is home to freshwater mussels — indicators of high-quality habitat. High sandy bluffs overlook patches of woodlands and prairies in the preserve, and a specialized wetland called a fen is fed by underground seeps on the southeastern portion of the preserve. The FVPC EcoWalk will visit in the spring and hope to hear some frogs and toads calling.

All are welcome to our service of Scripture, sermon, prayers, and song.
Our service also includes a special time for the children. Children begin worship in the Sanctuary and leave with teachers during the sermon time for Sunday school. They are also welcome to worship with their families in the pews. Sound is also turned on in our Gathering Space just outside the big glass doors to the Sanctuary in case your child needs a little more space to move around during the service. A nursery is available for younger children if your family prefers that option.
Masks and socially distanced seating are optional.
Sunday School begins after the Children’s Time in worship and ends at 11:15 am. Children are escorted to the classrooms after Children’s Time, and parents pick them up when Sunday School is over.
Three-year-olds through kindergarteners are welcomed in Room 1. First through fifth graders are welcomed in Room 2. Click here to read more about Sunday School.

Sunday School for our first through fifth graders meets in Room 2, following the Children’s Time in our worship service. The Sunday School curriculum for our first through fifth grade students is based on practices Jesus did and taught us to do as faithful followers. This curriculum examines where those practices are found in the Bible and how they are used in Christian faith. During this time, children will engage in music, Bible stories, prayer, and hands-on activities while growing in faith and building relationships.
Organizer for this event: Children’s Ministries Committee.
