Scott Powell of World Relief will talk about World Relief’s Good Neighbor Teams and his experience leading another church in sponsoring an immigrant family. This meeting will take place in the Conference Room at 11:15 am.
The Mission Committee has been working to find ways to support the enormous number of immigrants coming to the Chicago area. The Committee reached out to a number of immigration support groups in Oak Park and Chicago. All of them said that World Relief is the best way to support immigrants in our area.
Currently, FVPC members volunteer at World Relief one or two times per year to sort donations, prepare welcome kits, and sometimes even construct furniture.
This meeting with Scott Powell is part of the Mission Committee’s exploration on taking a more active role in World Relief by sponsoring an immigrant family. The Mission Committee is also researching agencies in the Chicago area that need goods and food.
Look for opportunities to serve in upcoming months.
