Hunger Banquet

  • Fox Valley Presbyterian Church 227 East Side Drive Geneva, IL, 60134 (map)

For many of us, food is something we gulp down on the bus, in front of the TV, messaging our friends … We often take food for granted. But amid all the rush of our lives, how much do we really know about our food?

Where does it come from? Who produced it? Did the food producer get a decent wage? And was this wage enough to feed their family?

Holy guacamole! That’s a lot to think about with every mouthful of corn chips. What we do know is that we can all play an important part in the fight against hunger, poverty and injustice.

This coming Sunday on February 4th. The youth will be participating in a Hunger Banquet. Students will be randomly given and income group as they arrive and then we will eat a meal together experiencing the ways in which food insecurity effects so many around the world.

This event can be a powerful examination about how poverty, climate change, and legislative policy effects millions across the globe and may spark deep conversation and reflection. This will be an event that all our youth can benefit and learn from. And yes, it will be fun too!

Recognizing that we all come from different backgrounds and life experiences, if you feel this may be upsetting for your youth, please don't hesitate to call if you have any questions or concerns.
